Zemeckis & Carrey’s Christmas Carol Confirmed

The Hollywood trades have confirmed Thursdays’ report that Jim Carrey will play Ebenezer Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Future in A Christmas Carol, an adaptation of the Charles Dickens tale that Robert Zemeckis wrote and will direct for Walt Disney Pictures.

Zemeckis will shoot the film using “performance capture/Disney digital 3-D” animation, a continuing evolution of techniques he introduced in The Polar Express and continues with the upcoming Beowulf.

A Christmas Carol will also feature a touch of live action and computer graphics, the latter of which ImageMovers employed in the Gil Kenan-directed Monster House.

Zemeckis wrote the script specifically with Carrey in mind and the actor said yes straight away.

The previous report said that Bob Hoskins would reteam with his Who Framed Roger Rabbit director to play Mr. Fezziwig, but the studio denied that any deal had yet been made with him.
