UPDATE: Borat 2 Coming After Bruno

Financial Times reports that Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, has revealed that Sacha Baron Cohen will do a “Borat” sequel at the company’s 20th Century Fox after he completes Bruno for Universal Pictures.

Cohen will next play fashion victim alter ego Bruno from “Da Ali G Show.” Murdoch said Fox was not prepared to outbid other studios for Bruno because Cohen would not show the script.

After the film is done, Cohen will “come back and do Borat 2,” Murdoch said during an interview at a conference in New York.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was made for just $18 million and earned $248 million worldwide.

UPDATE: Variety reports that Murdoch’s statements were surprisingly not accurate. Sources close to Cohen said there was no deal on the table for a “Borat” sequel, and a News Corp. spokesman said that Murdoch “was under the mistaken impression that we had signed a deal.”
