Andie MacDowell Joins Magic Mike XXL, Matthew McConaughey Will Not Return

Magic Mike XXL, the upcoming sequel to Steven Soderbergh’s 2012 hit, has added Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day) to its cast, Variety reports. Unfortunately for fans of the actor, however, Indiewire has learned that Matthew McConaughey won’t be reprising his role.

UPDATE: It’s being reported by Deadline that Jada Pinkett Smith is also circling a role playing the owner of a strip club, a part that was originally going to be played by a male actor.

Directed by Greg Jacobs, Magic Mike XXL features a screening by Reid Carolin and Channing Tatum, who will be returning alongside Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello.

The sequel plot will revolve around our favorite male exotic dancers going to a strippers’ convention, and follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.

MacDowell has a history with Soderbergh, having headlined his very first feature film, Sex, Lies and Videotape.

Magic Mike XXL is set to hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
