Things Will Get Dark in The Amazing Spider-Man Spinoff, Venom

Yesterday, we got an update on Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six, Sony Pictures’ first spinoff of their successful The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Today, we’ve got details on another as writer/director Alex Kurtzman has shared with MTV a few details about his plans for Venom.

“The idea,” says Kurtzman, “is that you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man… Venom is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character.”

There’s still no word yet on which iteration of the character the film will follow. Not counting Peter Parker himself, Eddie Brock was the first character to wear the alien symbiote and the first to take on the brain-eating persona of the monstrous antihero. In 2011, however, Marvel Comics rebooted the character, turning the suit over to longtime Spider-Man character Flash Thompson.

No release date has, as of yet, been announced for Venom, but check back for details as they become available.
