Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office yesterday, Walt Disney Pictures has revealed. The film has earned $255.2 million to date domestically and $245.3 million internationally, with several key markets yet to open, including Germany, Italy, Japan and China.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s 10th release and 10th straight #1 opening, opened on August 1 and set the record for the biggest August domestic opening of all time by earning $94.3 million. This past weekend, the film reclaimed the top spot at the box office in its fourth week of release and became the highest-grossing summer release domestically this year.

This success extends beyond the box office, as the soundtrack for the film, “Marvel¬ís Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1,” spent two straight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.

Marvel’s next release is Avengers: Age of Ultron, opening on May 1, 2015.
