James Ellroy to Script Classic Film Noir Remake Laura

A remake of Otto Preminger’s 1944 film noir Laura is on the way from Fox 2000 with The Hollywood Reporter today bringing word that noted crime novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia) is set to provide the screenplay.

In turn based on the 1942 crime serial (collected as a novel in 1943) by Vera Caspary, the original Laura stars Dana Andrews as a New York City Police Detective who begins to fall for a woman (Gene Tierney) whose alleged murder he’s tasked with investigating. Judith Anderson, Vincent Price and Clifton Webb co-star.

No director is currently attached to Laura, but Stuart Till will serve as executive producer.
