Andy Serkis’ The Jungle Book: Origins Set for October 21, 2016

It looks like there’s going to be a space of more than a year between the two upcoming adaptations of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Walt Disney Pictures’ Jon Favreau-directed version has already been announced for release on October 9, 2015 and now Warner Bros. has dated their Andy Serkis-directed take, now titled The Jungle Book: Origins, for October 21, 2016.

The original book was published in 1894 and includes, among a number of other animal-themed stories, the classic tales of an Indian boy named Mowgli who is raised by wolves and lives among the other animals in the jungle.

No casting for the Warner Bros. version has yet been announced. The Disney version, meanwhile, will star newcomer Neel Sethi and will also feature the voices of Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito.

The only other film set for release on October 21, 2016 is, at the moment, a mystery horror film from Blumhouse Productions.
