Comic-Con: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Opens a Capitol Gallery

Hunger Games fans attending Comic-Con this week in San Diego have a special treat waiting for them in the Hard Rock Hotel directly across from the convention center. Lionsgate has opened its Capitol Gallery, offering visitors a variety of Panem-inspired activities. Fans can take photos on President Snow’s chair alongside holograms of Jenna Malone’s Johanna Mason and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark, eat themed baked goods prepared by Peeta and collect goodies like t-shirts, phone cases and the brand-new Mockingjay pin. What’s more, there’s a special screening room that offers a very first look at the film’s first trailer! Check out our description below and take a look at the various Capitol activities in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page!

Running a little over a minute long, the trailer begins with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavensbee in a conversation with Julianne Moore’s President Coin.

“Listen to me,” he tells her, playing up the importance of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen. “No one else can do this.”

We see shots from around Panem and the rise of the Mockingjay rebellion. One overhead shot shows a field of crops with the symbol cut into it. We see Donald Sutherland’s President Snow furious, telling his men that the Mockingjay symbol will no longer be allowed anywhere.

There are lot of great stylish shots that really play up the scale of the new film, including an enormous army of Peacekeepers marching through the woods and the District citizens fighting back from the trees.

Underground, we’re re-introduced to Katniss. She’s got a fairly iconic shot in the trailer, silhouetted from behind and armed with her bow and arrows.

“Are you fighting Katniss?” a District 13 citizen asks. “Are you here to fight with us?”

Katniss looks somewhat uncertain.

“I am,” she says nonetheless. “I will.”

The title comes up at the end along with a new hashtag, #ourleaderthemockingjay.

Also starring Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, Evan Ross, Lily Rabe, Patina Miller, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Robert Knepper, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence and lands in theaters November 21.
