Amy Ryan and Alan Alda Join Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg’s Next

The project first announced this past April, Tom Hanks is getting ready to re-team with director Steven Spielberg for a still-untitled film about the U-2 spy plane incident. Boasting a screenplay by Joel and Ethan Coen (from an original script by Matt Charman), the film is now expanding its cast. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Amy Ryan has signed on to play Hanks’ wife and that Alan Alda, Eve Hewson and Billy Magnussen are all currently in talks for roles.

Based on the true story of James Donovan, the project follows the American attorney who was tasked with negotiating the release of pilot Gary Powers in the wake of the 1960 international incident.

Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger are attached to produce alongside Spielberg. Daniel Lupi and Adam Somner will executive produce the film, which will be co-financed by 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks. It hits theaters October 16, 2015.
