Mark Neveldine’s The Vatican Tapes Gets a 2015 Release Date

Director Mark Neveldine took to Twitter last night to tell the world that his next film, The Vatican Tapes, is going to hit theaters on February 27, 2015. Lionsgate is handling the distribution.

Michael Peña, Academy Djimon Hounsou, Dougray Scott, Kathleen Robertson, Peter Andersson, Olivia Dudley, John Patrick Amedori, Cas Anvar and Alex Sparrow star. This is Neveldine’s first solo feature. He previously helmed the “Crank” films, Gamer and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with Brian Taylor.

The Vatican Tapes follows the haunting tale of 27-year-old Angela Holmes, played by Dudley, an ordinary girl who begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close to her, causing serious injury and death. The local priest, Father Lozano (Peña), examines Holmes and believes she is possessed, but when Vicar Imani (Hounsou) and Cardinal Bruun (Andersson) are called from the Vatican to exorcise the demon, it proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than they imagined.

The film currently faces no other horror competition that week, though Warner Bros.’ Focus, 20th Century Fox’s Hitman: Agent 47 and Open Road’s Little Boy are scheduled to open the same day.
