The Final Girls Horror-Comedy Finds New Life, Gets Farmiga & Akerman

The last time we reported on The Final Girls was back in 2011. That was when Todd Strauss-Schulson, the director of A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, was attached to the project for New Line. The story, from screenwriters Mark Fortin and Josh Miller, found a teenage girl and her friends sucked into the ’80s slasher film that her mother starred in.

It sounded like a fun premise that can bring two generations of horror together and it also opens the door to seeing a cool slasher back on the screen. Alas, things went quiet on the project, until now…

Screen Daily says Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up the project and Malin Akerman (Watchmen) and Taissa Farmiga (“American Horror Story: Coven”) will star. We’re going to guess Farmiga is the daughter and Akerman will play the “final girl” of the slasher film.

Shooting begins this April.
