Sony Pictures Already Planning The Equalizer 2 with Denzel Washington

Although director Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer won’t hit theaters until September 26, Sony Pictures is already focusing some attention on the sequel. TheWrap reports that Richard Wenk, who wrote the first film, has signed on to script a followup, planned to again feature Denzel Washington in the title role. The early start on the sequel has been attributed to the fact that the first film’s test screening have been receiving an incredibly positive response.

The original series was created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. It starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a private detective with a lot of contacts who is available for hire if you have a problem that you don’t know how to solve.

In the movie, McCall (Washington) is living a quiet life while working at a Home Depot when one of his acts of kindness towards a prostitute (Chloe Grace Moretz) gets him embroiled with the Russian mob. Melissa Leo will play McCall’s former supervisor who now provides him with information.

Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch are producing the through Escape Artists, alongside Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge, Michael Sloan, and Washington.
