Marvel Prepping Guardians of the Galaxy Sequel for 2016?

The folks over at Joblo have heard rumblings about one of Marvel Studios’ upcoming films, the unannounced title that currently sits on May 6, 2016 along with Warner Bros.’ own juggernaut Batman vs. Superman. It’s been speculated by many that this film could be Dr. Strange or even Black Panther, but JoBlo reports that the film will be none other than a sequel to this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

The site also reports earlier rumors that an animated series is in the works for the Marvel property, and it’s expected to debut on Disney XD in the fall of 2015 (making a nice lead in to a big screen sequel). Keep in mind that this is a rumor for the time being, and Marvel likely won’t announce what movie occupies that space until San Diego Comic-Con 2014 at the earliest.

Should the rumor prove true, it would be the shortest gap between a Marvel film and its sequel, which is currently the two year gap between Iron Man and Iron Man 2. What do you think of the rumor? Do you think we’ll see a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel in 2016? Sound off below!

Guardians of the Galaxy features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. The August 1 release stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Djimon Honsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close and John C. Reilly.
