HBO, Baz Luhrmann Eyed for Steven Spielberg-Produced Napoleon Miniseries

First announced earlier this year, Steven Spielberg is set to produce a television miniseries version of Stanley Kubrick’s developed-but-never-produced Napoleon. Today, Variety reports that HBO is eyeing the project and that they are keen on signing The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge! helmer Baz Luhrmann to direct.

Kubrick did extensive research on the life of Napoleon for two years. A feature film was well into pre-production when the studio pulled the plug and cancelled the project. The new take is said to work from his 1961 screenplay.

Neither Luhrmann or HBO are fully committed to the project as of yet, but check back for updates on the project as soon as they become available.
