Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will write and produce the live-action adaptation of Mattel’s Monster High for Universal Pictures.
The film is set at “frighteningly fashionable” Monster High and features the spawn of famous monsters including Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman undergoing the trials and tribulations of high school.
Schwartz and Savage will produce under their Fake Empire banner alongside Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Mattel’s Playground Productions is executive producing. Universals vice president of production Maradith Frenkel and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for the studio.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar had previously written the movie as a musical, but it will no longer be a musical.
