Sophie Barthes (Cold Souls) directs the passionate drama from a screenplay by Rose Barrenche & Sophie Barthes who adapted Gustave Flaubert’s classic novel, “Madame Bovary.” The Occupant Entertainment production is produced by Joe Neurauter & Felipe Marino (Better Living Through Chemistry, The Wackness) in association with Aden Films’ Sophie Barthes and Aleph Motion Picture’s Jaime Mateus-Tique with financing coming from film financing specialist Prescience (The King’s Speech) with Tim Smith and Paul Brett taking Executive Producer credits, Belgian’s SCOPE Pictures with Genevieve Lemal taking Co-producer credit, Left Field Ventures’ John Engel taking Co-producer credit and Germany’s A Company Filmed Entertainment with Alexander van Duelmen and Kai Kuenneman taking Co-producer credit.

“We are thrilled that this ambitious production continues to attract the most exciting talent as well as financing and distribution partners, testament to a brilliant and timely adaptation and Sophie Barthes’ distinct and authentic vision for this film, which is being filmed in the heart of Normandy where Flaubert’s novel is set,” commented Occupant’s Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino.

Tim Smith, CEO of Prescience added: “We are enormously pleased to be involved with this prestigious production which is sure to be one of the most anticipated films of the 2014/15 season. Prescience is a proud supporter of Occupant and following ‘Better Living Through Chemistery,’ ‘Madame Bovary’ is another chapter in our ongoing relationship which will involve many more films.”

The producers have assembled a top-notch below the line filmmaking team including director of photography Andrij Parekh (Blue Valentine), production designer Benoît Barouh (Renoir), four-time Cesar-award winning costume designer Christian Gasc and Valerie Ranchoux (Farewell, My Queen), editor Mikkel Nielsen (A Royal Affair) and composer Evgueni Galperine (The Past, Luc Besson’s The Family).

Madame Bovary tells the tragic story of Emma (Wasikowska), a young beauty who impulsively marries a small-town doctor to leave her father’s pig farm behind. But after being introduced to the glamorous world of high society, she soon becomes bored with her stodgy mate and seeks excitement and status outside the bonds of marriage.
