Although The Incredible Burt Wonderstone helmer Don Scardino was previously rumored to direct, Variety is today reporting that New Line Cinema is in negotiations with Ted Melfi, previously attached just as screenwriter, to take on Going in Style. Melfi is making his directorial debut with the upcoming St. Vincent de Van Nuys.

Directed by Martin Brest, the original 1979 film starred George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasberg as a trio of senior citizens who decide to rob a bank and take their winnings to Las Vegas.

Tony Bill, who also produced the original film, is returning to produce the remake.
