The Capitol Reveals Katniss Everdeen’s Influence on Fall Fashion

The summer issue of Capitol Couture was released earlier this week and, as we previously reported, it features a profile on District 7 past Hunger Games champion Johanna Mason. Today, the Capitol has issued an addendum to the new issue that illustrates the influence that District 12’s recent champions, Katniss Everdeen, aka “The Girl on Fire,” and Peeta Mellark are having on fashion throughout Panem. Check out the Capitol’s District 12 model below.

“I was inspired by the interpretation of coal mining,” says Covergirl Capitol Makeup Artist Dotti, “by the colors in coal mining: the dust, the grey, the silvers and the black.”

At the risk of editorializing (and of drawing the ire of President Snow), we’d like to point out that the bravery and sacrifice on the part of District 12’s recent champions was about far more than influencing the Capitol’s fashion and the below image serves as a disgrace to all of those who have given their lives, both by participating in the Hunger Games and by working themselves to death in District 12’s coal mines.

With a Quarter Quell coming up this November, something tells us that the story of the Girl on Fire is far from over.
