Idris Elba to Lead Beasts of No Nation

Idris Elba is set to both produce and headline Red Crown Production’s upcoming adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala’s bestselling novel Beasts of No Nation. Deadline reports that Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre, Sin Nombre) will direct. Published in 2006, the book is officially described as follows:

In this stunning debut novel, Agu, a young boy in an unnamed West African nation, is recruited into a unit of guerrilla fighters as civil war engulfs his country. Haunted by his father’s own death at the hands of militants, Agu is vulnerable to the dangerous yet paternal nature of his new Commander. While the war rages on, Agu becomes increasingly divorced from the life he had known before the conflict started—a life of school friends, church services, and time with his family still intact.

Elba, who will play the Commander, recently starred in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and can be seen coming up in both Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Thor: The Dark World.

In addition to Elba and Fukunaga, Amy Kaufman, Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Riva Marker will produce with Bill Benenson and Daniel Crown executive producing.
