Len Wiseman Drops Out of The Mummy Reboot

Director and “Underworld” franchise mastermind Len Wiseman had been on board to direct Universal’s reboot of The Mummy as his next project following the Total Recall remake, but now he’s had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The project is still moving forward without him as producers Sean Daniels, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci start searching for a new director immediately in hopes of getting the movie into theaters for the summer of 2014. The script for the attempted reinvention of the “Mummy” series, which has grossed $1.25 billion over three films, is written by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts.

Kurtzman and Orci were going for a darker and scarier take on the “Mummy” mythology said to draw inspiration from the science-based novels of Michael Crichton that would still appeal to a wide audience with the Mummy character being a monster but with more of a human personality.
