Helen Mirren Joins The Hundred-Foot Journey

The Lasse Hallstrom-directed DreamWorks’ culinary movie The Hundred-Foot Journey has added the first two names to its cast, one an Oscar-winning actress, the other a virtual unknown, as the trades are reporting that Helen Mirren has been cast in one of two lead roles, while the other has been filled by relative unknown Manish Dayal.

Adapted from Richard Morais’ bestseller by Steve Knight and produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake, the film follows an Indian family who moves to Southern France to open an Indian restaurant across the street from a high profile French restaurant that starts a culinary battle between the two restaurants.

Dayal is a South Carolina native who has appeared on stage and in various TV shows, being best known for his portrayal of Raj Kher in the CW series “90210” and appearing most recently on the ABC Family show “Switched at Birth.”

Mirren next appears in the Summit Entertainment action sequel Red 2, which opens on Friday, July 19.

Plans are to start production in France and India this September with plans for a U.S. release on August 8, 2014 with Disney distributing in the United States and select territories and DreamWorks’ partner Reliance distributing the film in India.
