Filmmaker Paul Feig Developing Female Spy Movie, Susan Cooper

Following the overwhelming success of 2011’s Bridesmaids and the upcoming release of his Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy buddy cop movie The Heat, out June 28, filmmaker Paul Feig isn’t resting on his laurels as he’s already developing a new female-friendly comedy called Susan Cooper, which is meant to be a possible female spy franchise for 20th Century Fox.

Feig is currently looking for an actress to play that the title role in the two-handed comedy that will be more along the lines of a serious spy movie like James Bond than a spoof spy comedy like Johnny English, according to The Wrap.

Feig wrote the script with plans to produce through his first look deal at Fox with Feigco Entertainment banner along with the company’s new executive VP Jessie Henderson and Fox’s Daria Cercek overseeing.

The success Feig had with Bridesmaids, which grossed $288 million worldwide, has put him in a good place to develop and find edgy R-rated comedies, particularly focusing on female-driven projects which he feels are lacking.

Besides developing Susan Cooper, Feig is currently working with Chernin Entertainment to develop a mother-daughter comedy to be written by The Heat‘s Katie Dippold.
