The first teaser poster for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is now online and it shows off Martin Freeman’s Bilbo Baggins at the entrance to the Lonely Mountain, the cave where the villainous Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) guards his Dwarven treasure. The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit,” by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters December 13 with the final chapter, The Hobbit: There and Back Again arriving December 17, 2014.
