Exclusive: Joss Whedon to Judge Regal’s Much Ado About Nothing Fan Art Poster Contest

By ON

Marvel’s The Avengers director Joss Whedon has teamed up with Regal Cinemas to promote Much Ado About Nothing, a modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic comedy. Joss is looking for a unique poster design that can be used to promote Much Ado About Nothing at participating Regal Entertainment Group theatres this summer. If you’ve ever wanted to design a movie poster, now’s your chance!

Check out Whedon’s video message below and follow the directions at REGMovies.com/MyMuchAdoPoster regarding the design format and submission, and enter your fan art poster for Joss to review. On Thursday, June 20, Regal will announce Whedon’s favorite poster design and the next week on Friday, June 28, the winning poster will be distributed at participating Regal theatres. The winner will also receive a year’s supply of movies from Regal and a framed copy of the poster – signed by Joss Whedon himself.

“Regal is honored to work with Joss Whedon on this unique promotion,” stated Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer for Regal Entertainment Group. “As an accomplished writer, producer and director, Joss is recognized both for his success and creativity. He has a deep appreciation for the artistic and creative process so this promotion is a natural fit. Regal fans are some of the most engaged and inspired moviegoers in the world, and I predict that they will answer this challenge with some great designs for Joss.”

Filmed in just 12 days entirely on location in exotic Santa Monica, Calif., Much Ado About Nothing features a stellar cast of beloved, or soon to be beloved, actors – some of them veterans of Shakespearean theater, some completely new to the form, but all dedicated to the idea that this story bears retelling, that this dialogue is as fresh and intoxicating as any being written, and that the joy of working on a passion project surrounded by dear friends, admired colleagues and an atmosphere of unabashed rapture far outweighs their hilariously miniature paychecks.

Shot in glorious black and white by Jay Hunter, the June 7 release stars Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof as Beatrice and Benedick, the world’s least likely lovers headed for their inevitable tumble into love. The supporting cast includes Nathan Fillion as Dogberry, Clark Gregg as Leonato, Fran Kranz as Claudio and Reed Diamond as Don Pedro.
