Michael Giacchino to Score Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Composer Michael Giacchino has just revealed through his Twitter feed that he’ll be providing the score for Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, set for release on May 23, 2014.

Featuring a script from Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Mark Bomback, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the story that began in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and features a cast that includes Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer.

In the film, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Patrick Doyle provided the score for Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Giacchino previously worked with Reeves on 2010’s Let Me In.
