Constantin Films Developing Mortal Instruments Prequel

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, the adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s novel, won’t open in theaters until August 23, but production company Constantin Film is already moving forward with development of the prequel series, “The Infernal Devices.” The Hollywood Reporter says that Stephanie Sanditz will write the screenplay.

“The Infernal Devices” are a trilogy of prequels to the “Mortal Instruments” books, set almost 130 years ago. They deal with the adventures of a Downworlder girl named Tessa in a Victorian London where the Accords have only just been finalized and tensions between Shadowhunters and Downworlders are running high.

The three books include “Clockwork Angel,” “Clockwork Prince” and “Clockwork Princess.”

The trade says that Constantin is currently looking for a director to adapt the books.
