Charles Bronson starred in the original 1974 film (in turn based on a 1972 novel by the same name) as a New York man who turns vigilante following the murder of his wife. The original Death Wish received four sequels (all of which starred Bronson) over the course of the next two decades.
Carnahan’s departure is allegedly linked to creative differences over the film’s lead. Paramount Pictures and MGM are said to be keen on casting Bruce Willis for the part.
“You stick to your guns,” Carnahan wrote on Twitter shortly after the story broke. “You walk what you talk and you only make the things and do the work you love and believe in.”
Check back soon for updates on Death Wish and for information on what Carnahan decides to now make his next project.
