CS Video: The Django Unchained Cast Talks Tarantino

We’ve all been waiting a long time for a new movie from Quentin Tarantino and we finally got it with Django Unchained, an unconventional Western following the adventures of a former slave named Django (Jamie Foxx) and the German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) that frees him, trains him how to shoot and then helps him to free his slave wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington). They eventually come to the plantation known as Candie Land run by the ruthless Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his equally bad butler Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson) and henchman Billy Crash (Walton Goggins).

ComingSoon.net attended the New York junket for the movie and while we didn’t get to talk to the notoriously internet shy Tarantino, we did talk to most of the cast mentioned above sans Leo.

In the video interviews below, we began simply by asking the actors about their reaction to finding out Quentin Tarantino wanted them to be in his Western, as well as asking returning collaborators Jackson and Waltz how they found out about the movie and the roles Tarantino wanted them to play. Jackson and Goggins talk about how they got into the roles of playing two of the film’s bad guys, while Foxx and Washington talk about creating the very specific Tarantino-like tone which mixes high drama with humor. Jackson talks about what it’s like on a Tarantino set and Waltz muses on what the filmmaker may want to do next.
