CS Video: The IMAX Documentary To the Arctic 3D

Responsible for past Academy Award-nominated short subject documentaries The Living Sea and Dolphins, director Greg MacGillivray invites moviegoers on a journey to the far north when his latest To the Arctic 3D arrives on the IMAX screen.

Working alongside his son, producer Shaun MacGillivray, the documentarian explores the rapidly diminishing ice cap at the north pole and the effect that the melting environment is having on the areas native inhabitants, from groups of cantankerous walruses to a very special polar bear family.

Narrated by Meryl Streep and featuring music by Paul McCartney, To the Arctic 3D offers a sweeping look at the pole’s natural world, traveling high above the air and deep beneath the water to capture, in fully IMAX glory, the wonder of a terrain imperiled by climate change.

ComingSoon.net sat down with both MacGillivrays to discuss their unique approach to documentary filmmaking, the innovative cameras designed to capture the true nature of their animal subjects and the danger and wonder of working at the top of the world.

Check out the interview in the player below and catch To the Arctic 3D only on IMAX screens beginning this Friday, April 20th.
