CS Video: The Cast of Disney’s John Carter

It’s been one hundred years since Edgar Rice Burroughs first wrote about John Carter, a 19th Century Confederate cavalryman caught in a war between three races on the planet Mars, in “A Princess of Mars,” and nearly 75 years since someone first attempted to bring Burroughs’ work to the big screen. Oscar-winning director Andrew Stanton (WALL•E, Finding Nemo) finally succeeded in pulling off what many thought impossible with Disney’s John Carter, and a few weeks back, ComingSoon.net was invited to the Boulders Resort in beautiful Carefree, Arizona to talk with Stanton and his cast about the movie.

While there, we spoke with John Carter himself, Taylor Kitsch, as well as the lovely Lynn Collins, who plays Martian Princess Dejah Thoris; Willem Dafoe, who did performance capture to portray the four-armed Thark leader Tars Tarkas, and Dominic West, who plays the ruthless Sab Than, who leads the Zodangan race with a mighty weapon in their war against Thoris’ Heliumites.

The four actors talked with us about getting the roles and what they hoped to bring to their characters as well as what it was like working with Andrew Stanton on his first live-action film and doing some of those enormous action setpieces that involve so many moving parts.
