Exclusive CS Video: Secretariat

Secretariat, the immortal racehorse, took the world by storm in 1973 when he became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in 25 years. Beyond his fantastic physical skill, Secretariat owes much of his legend to his unconventional owner, Penny Chenery, who defied traditional gender roles to ensure that the horse got the chance to race under her terms.

Adapting the story for the silver screen is Randall Wallace, the director of We Were Soldiers and The Man in the Iron Mask, who was also the screenwriter behind Braveheart. Wallace quickly found his Penny Chenery in Diane Lane, who brings Secretariat’s owner to life with the sterling approval of her real-life counterpart. At Lane’s side (as the character was at Chenery’s), is John Malkovich as Lucien Laurin, the eccentric but-talented trainer that helped prepare Secretariat for victory.

ComingSoon.net had the opportunity to speak with Wallace, Lane and Malkovich as well as supporting cast members Kevin Connolly and Nelsan Ellis, at a special event hosted at California’s Santa Anita Race track. Check out the full video interviews below and see Secretariat in theaters beginning Friday, October 8th.
