The Star Wars News Roundup – 9.12.14

ON

The purpose of this roundup is to put the highlights of all things Star Wars from the last week in one location. If you read this each week, you should be able to converse fluently with any Star Wars fan on everything from the latest Star Wars: Episode VII developments to the latest toys. And maybe you’ll even share with them something that they might have missed.

Let’s get to it!

Episode VII News and Rumors

First up, J.J. Abrams tweeted a message to Apple, but people noticed a familiar background. While many media outlets drew the conclusion that it was from the Death Star, that’s not necessarily the case. It’s probably just Imperial architecture at some new setting.

The major news from the week actually came from the skies as some people flying over Greenham Common spotted outdoor filming of “Episode VII,” which is interesting considering this is the first time we’ll see the Millennium Falcon filmed outdoors. (Previously it was only shot on sets.) It spiraled from there as the press caught on.

Was Greg Grunberg cast in “Episode VII” or is he joking?

Next up, the rumors:

You’re filming “Star Wars” now. Is it a real departure for you?

Yeah, I’ve never done anything on this scale before. It’s a very exciting project to be involved with. I love it. When I first met J.J. [Abrams, director], it was all about character and story. That was the first thing out of his mouth, so that’s what we’ve been working on. So, even though it is a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, it’s still very human. It’s not taking a back seat to effects or the spectacle of it.
