The purpose of this roundup is to put the highlights of all things Star Wars from the last week in one location. If you read this each week, you should be able to converse fluently with any Star Wars fan on everything from the latest Star Wars: Episode VII developments to the latest toys. And maybe you’ll even share with them something that they might have missed.
Let’s get to it!

Episode VII Movie News Summary
The Hollywood Reporter got a quote from IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond regarding “Episode VII”:
The Force is larger than you might have expected in this one. During a speech at Goldman Sachs’ Annual Communacopia Conference, IMAX chief executive officer Richard Gelfond dropped the surprising tidbit that the next Star Wars movie may be filmed, in part, in IMAX format.
Talking about the increase in movies being shot in IMAX format (and screen ratio), Gelfond said “We are talking to J.J. Abrams [just] now about the next Star Wars being used with partly IMAX cameras.”
Bleeding Cool got a report on yet another casting call that has gone out.
Tall Man (Male, 21 60) Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too thick set especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus.
Could this be for a role as a Wookiee? Possibly a recast of Chewbacca or a new Wookiee?
Den of Geek also noticed some additional news in the casting call:
Also of note in the casting call is the production date, stating the start date is “early 2014” whilst the producers are credited as “Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk, Tommy Harper (Exec).”
Harper wasn’t previously listed as an executive producer.
Jedi News UK reports that not only is David Oylelowo cast in “Star Wars Rebels” (see below), but “Episode VII” as well:
The actor is BBC Spook’s star David Oyelowo who is due to be in Jurassic World. He was also in Red Tails, so is a Lucasfilm alumni and was recently in Lincoln for Kathleen Kennedy. REALLY, REALLY good actor and a brilliant choice. Hope he has a great role.
I am being told that not only will he be in Episode 7 but the plan is for him to also be in Rebels playing a character that sets up his Episode VII character! All part of the major EpVII co-ordinated push being pulled together by Simon Kinberg and the first major sign that Rebels will be the vehicle to setup the masses for EpVII fever!!
This seems a little questionable as the character in “Episode VII” would have to be much older than Oyelowo in order to be in “Star Wars Rebels” as well. Maybe he’s a relative? We’ll see.
Meanwhile, LA Times writer Yvonne Villarreal got J.J. Abrams to, ah, dodge a question about Benedict Cumberbatch:
JJ Abrams on #StarWars: "We're working our asses off trying to get things in place w/ casting." Benedict Cumberbatch? "I love that guy."

So is he still in the running or what?
Meanwhile, CraveOnline got J.J. Abrams to address one of the most controversial topics related to the director – lens flares:
“I know I get a lot of grief for that,” says Abrams. “But I’ll tell you, there are times when I’m working on a shot, I think, ‘Oh this would be really cool with a lens flare.’ But I know it’s too much, and I apologize. I’m so aware of it now. I was showing my wife an early cut of Star Trek Into Darkness and there was this one scene where she was literally like, ‘I just can’t see what’s going on. I don’t understand what that is.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I went too nuts on this.'”
“This is how stupid it was,” J.J. Abrams added. “I actually had to use ILM [Industrial Light & Magic] to remove lens flare in a couple of shots, which is, I know, moronic. But I think admitting you’re an addict is the first step towards recovery.”
Will there be fewer lens flares in Star Wars? Let’s hope so.
Latino Review throws more fuel on the casting rumor flames. While this means little to nothing, it is fun to think that Kennedy is courting high caliber actors like Daniel DayLewis for “Episode VII.” We’ll see if anything comes of this!

Ask Warwick Davis if he’d prefer a role in Star Wars or Harry Potter and you’ll find he can make the tough decision. Xpose Entertainment reports:
Speaking to the Independent on Sunday newspaper, he said: ”If I had to choose between a new ‘Harry Potter’ [film] or a future ‘Star Wars’ … Hmm … It’s a tricky one.
”But I would have to go with the planned ‘Star Wars’ films by [director] JJ Abrams. It’s where I started and it would be wonderful to be part of the new trilogy.”
USA Today grabbed some excerpts from a Playboy article where Samuel L. Jackson talked about “Episode VII”:
“They should figure out a way to bring my (rear) back from wherever I went when I fell out that window, because you know a Jedi can fall from incredible heights and not die. I’d just come back with a fake hand like Darth Vader and my purple lightsaber.”
The Albuquerque Journal reports that New Mexico not only won’t get “Episode VII” filming there, but it was never in the running:
According to a source close to the project, New Mexico was never on the list for the film and (the project) is being filmed in London.
So the project wont be coming to the state. (Enter sighs here.)
Finally, a lot of fans say want they want in “Episode VII,” but few do it as perfectly as this video.
The Hollywood Reporter got some casting rumors on “Star Wars Rebels”:
THR/HeatVision has learned that David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum are in the process of being cast as the voice leads for the series, which will make its debut in fall 2014.
TheForce.Net posted the trailer for the UK release of “Clone Wars” Season 5. The US release is October 15th.

The Inquirer – Lucasfilm will combine video games and movies to axe post-production process
OVER THE NEXT DECADE video game engines will be used in film-making, with the two disciplines combining to eliminate the movie post-production process.
That rather ambitious claim comes from Lucasfilm, the California production company responsible for the Star Wars franchise. Speaking at the Technology Strategy Board event at BAFTA in London this week, the company’s chief technology strategy officer Kim Libreri announced that the developments in computer graphics have meant Lucasfilm has been able to transfer its techniques to film-making, shifting video game assets into movie production.
Real-time motion capture and the graphics of video game engines, Libreri claimed, will increasingly be used in movie creation, allowing post-production effects to be overlayed in real time.
