Let’s get to it!

Some might consider the powers of the Dark Side….unnatural.

Episode VII Movie News Summary

First up, casting on “Episode VII” continues. Showbiz 411 reports that casting calls are taking place in New York with the familiar descriptions surfacing again:

“Untitled Studio Feature” is the way it’s billed today in casting sheets. But “Star Wars,” Episode 7, is looking for three principal actors in New York. The giveaway: the director is J.J. Abrams and the studio is Disney. This is who they’re looking for:

[YOUNG MAN] Early 20s. Handsome, but not necessarily heroic. He is witty and smart. Physically fit.

[MAN] Late 20s. Physically fit, handsome and confident.

[YOUNG WOMAN] Late teens. Physically fit, raw energy, independent and with a great sense of humor.

It’s good to see none of the Skywalker clan are unfit.

Earlier this year, in an interview with Fan Voice, Drew Struzan was asked if he had anything big in the works despite being retired. Possibly Star wars?

Fanhattan: Last time you and I chatted, you talked about being retired, so I’m thrilled to see new work from you. Are you working on any big new projects.

Drew Struzan: Oh, well, never say never, [laughs] because…in fact, I got a couple calls already this week on Star Wars from Disney. Oh my god, I’m trying to be retired! You know, I spent 35 years painting Star Wars. [laughs] I painted Star Wars before most of you were born! But I guess there is always a chance. There’s no intention. But I would love to have a day off every now and again, and I have to work a weekend and all through the night. If the opportunity arises, it will be a real temptation. But it’s going to have to be a real temptation to get me away from my wife and my little grandkids and my family. Away from the green trees and the blue skies for a change instead of just locked in the studio. But, you know, never say never. All things are possible.

Struzan then took to Facebook to clarify his comments:

Misunderstood…A couple of friends at Disney were fantasizing about the new STAR WARS movies.

“Disney” has said nothing to me and I expect nothing. That a couple of friends were wishing is only an expression of the hope that many are sharing but says nothing regarding the Studio itself. Even if ‘they’ did ask, which Disney has not, I’d rather leave the new films to the next generation to interpret. I’ve had my time and they were exceptional blessings for which I will forever be grateful.

Tomorrow is a new day…drew

Jedi News then had a source add some more news:

Bit of rumoured news: Drew Struzan can’t be convinced to come on board for the poster. Now looking at BLT Communications LLC to do the design.

Stay tuned for more!

Film Chronicles reported that a big Star Wars fan and former J.J. Abrams collaborator may be getting a role in “Episode VII”:

There’s a lot of gossip swirling around that Lucasfilm are about to make a big casting announcement regarding Star Wars VII, and that casting announcement appears to be none-other than Benedict Cumberbatch, most recently seen in director JJ Abrams’ previous movie, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’.

However, The NY Daily News followed up with a denial from Cumberbatch’s agent:

The British actor is not reteaming with his “Star Trek Into Darkness” director on J.J. Abrams’ foray into the “Star Wars” universe, Cumberbatch’s rep confirmed to the News.

“There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars,” a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor told the News. “I think the rumours are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek .”

We’ll see what ends up happening, but this rumor seems unlikely. In the meantime, another rumor has popped up. Jedi News UK reports that Latvian actress Ksenia Solo is being considered for a role:

Pretty solid source telling me that Ksenia Solo is being considered for a role, potentially Solo playing the daughter of Han Solo.
Notable previous appearances include Black Swan and Showcase’s Lost Girl.

With a name like “Solo,” she has to have a role, right? Next up, RebelForce Radio reports the following via Jedi News UK:

On tomorrow’s RFR, we feature coverage from DragonCon. Our RFR correspondent, Riley Blanton from starwarsreport.com reports to us on this week’s show that he had a conversation with Sparticus actor Liam McIntyre who revealed he read for a role in Episode VII. McIntyre hinted to Riley that he read directly from the script for a role of a Jedi. More deets on tomorrow’s episode of RebelForce Radio.

Natalie Portman is doing press for “Thor: The Dark World” and was asked if she might appear in the new movies. Static Multimedia reports:

Will you be part of the next Star Wars project?

No. I died.

But you never know. As a ghost…

I know. That’s true. No one has asked me about those either, but I am really excited about them. But I would be open to it. (laughs)

Meanwhile, Billy Dee Williams and his agent continued to express their desire to have Lando appear in the new films. Comicbook.com reports:

“There’s a lot of rumors out there right now about the original cast coming back, and I know it’s a burning question,” said Maki. “Mark, Carrie, Harrison, and Billy, none of them have signed contracts, so it’s all rumors, just so you know.”

Maki added, “We want you to Facebook, blog, and Twitter that you want to see Lando in the next Star Wars movie, so that J.J. gets ahold of him, because you’re going to make it happen. And we have this new thing on Twitter now #BringBackLando, so if you guys are on Twitter #BringBackLando.”

In regards to returning for Star Wars Episode VII, Billy Dee Williams said, “The right idea actually is to come back with a daughter who’s a Jedi, a beautiful daughter who’s a Jedi.”

Finally, is it too early to start speculation on “Episode VIII” locations?

Star Wars Interviews talks to Yoda puppeteer Dave Barclay:

During your time on the Dagobah set there was just one actor: Mark Hamill. All the Dagobah scenes feature his character Luke and Yoda. How was Mark to work with?

Mark was wonderful. It was because of him I got to work on the film in the first place. He had commissioned me to build an 18 inch marionette of Darth Vader and it was when I delivered that completed marionette to Elstree Studios – he introduced me to Stuart Freeborn. Mark was a puppet fan and certainly loved the Muppets and his integration and patience with the often time consuming process of movie puppeteering was a key element in the success of those scenes.

A.C. Crispin, author of the young Han Solo novels, is in the final stages of cancer. This week she wrote a farewell to fans on her Facebook page:

“I’ve been hesitant to make this post, but it’s time. I want to thank you all for your good wishes and prayers. I fear my condition is deteriorating. I am doing the best I can to be positive but I probably don’t have an awful lot of time left. I want you all to know that I am receiving excellent care and am surrounded by family and friends.

“I wish all aspiring writers the will to finish and a good contract. Please continue to monitor Writer Beware and be careful who you sign with. Victoria Strauss and Richard White are there to help.

“I’ve asked Michael to collect and read me your messages. As I don’t know how things will proceed, I don’t know if I’ll have the strength to post on Facebook again.”

Be sure to go by and wish her well.

Facebook reports the following:

We are pleased to announce that Lucasfilm Senior Editor Jen Heddle has penned a short story starring a certain rebel princess for Star Wars Insider Magazine #145. “Constant Spirit” hurls young Senator Leia Organa into a do-or-die mission, during which learns that freedom cannot be achieved without sacrifice. Which I guess is a pretty cookie-cutter way of saying that doodoo gets serious. Here’s one of the accompanying pieces of artwork by Magali Villeneuve. The issue hits newsstands October 22 (a few weeks after EMPIRE AND REBELLION: RAZOR’S EDGE goes on sale) and we’re pretty excited for you guys to read this as Jen comes out swinging with a tight, exciting, and character-defining Leia story.
