CS Video: The Wolverine’s Dream Girl, Famke Janssen

At this point, it’s probably not that big of a secret that Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey makes a welcome return in this week’s The Wolverine, but how she returns after being killed by Logan himself in X-Men: The Last Stand will remain somewhat of a mystery. What’s important is that Jean Grey plays a very important part in the story even with most of the action taking place in Japan, because Jean Grey is still Logan’s great lost love and he’s torn apart by having been responsible for her death.

As an added bonus to our previous interviews with Hugh Jackman himself and director James Mangold, here”s a special interview with Ms. Janssen talking about her return as Jean Grey (sans any major spoilers!).

We specifically spoke to her about her decision to return and the general lack of women characters in superhero movies and summer blockbusters other than the “X-Men” movies, of course. We talked about her first scenes with Hugh back when they made X-Men 13 years ago and whether or not she expected to still be playing the character this far into the future. Unfortunately Jean Grey isn’t coming back for X-Men: Days of Future Past–as far as Janssen knows–but she’s very excited for the movie and having Bryan Singer return, so we talked a bit about what Singer had achieved with his first two “X-Men” movies. We also talked about following up her directorial debut Bringing Up Bobby by developing other movies to direct, getting ready to film the second season of Netflix’s “Hemlock Grove” and how she’s generally keeping busy.

You can watch the full interview with the lovely Ms. Janssen in the video player below. The Wolverine opens nationwide in 2D and 3D theaters on Thursday night, July 25.
