The Green Slime Oozes Back from Warner Archive

The Green Slime: Gooey 1969 Japanese/Italian/American classic comes to Blu-ray for the first time

The brains behind Batman, Battle Royale and Wild, Wild Planet were also behind one of the most riotous and bizarre cult movies of all time. We’re talking about 1969’s The Green Slime, Japano-Italo-American Sci-Fi Horror camp classic that underscores the importance of wiping your feet. Ivan Reiner, chief writer on the famed “Gamma One” quadrilogy (Wild, Wild Planet, War of the Planets, War Between the Planets and The Snow Devils) and his co-writer on The Snow Devils, the legendary Bat-scribe Bill Finger, teamed up with the legendary Kinji Fukasaku to direct this “Gamma One Plus” tale that was an instant mondo cinesensation.

After a perilous mission to blow up a huge Earth-bound asteroid, a crew returns to its space station, unaware a bit of ooze from the surface clings to a crewman’s uniform. The green goop grows into murderous tentacled monsters whose festering wounds turn into more monsters! And this slime glows like never before thanks to this pristine 1080p presentation that reveals the film’s long hidden secret – behind the wires and latex there lurks a mini-masterpiece of swinging sixties pop-art direction!

Synopsis: After a perilous mission to a huge asteroid, a crew returns to its space station, unaware that a bit of ooze from the asteroid clings to a crewman’s uniform. The green goop grows – into murderous, tentacled monsters. And as station members fight to live, gunk from the monsters’ wounds turns into more monsters! That’s the story. Now enjoy as our heroes fight to preserve Earth and, unintentionally, our own senses of humor with a movie that Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times called “one of the funniest made-in-Japan sci-fi monster movies ever.” Kinji Fukasaku, whose later work was championed by Quentin Tarantino, directs. The world would be a far more bleak and joyless place without marvels like The Green Slime.

The Green Slime stars Robert Horton, Richard Jaeckel and Luciana Paluzzi and now, Warner Archive have dragged the gooey classic to Blu-ray for the first time, a sumptuous 16×9 1080p remastered Letterboxed presentation that preserves all the slime for you to savor.

You can order your own copy of The Green Slime direct from Warner Archive today. Well…what the heck are you waiting for, you slime-sucker?
