Florida! Sleazy Shatner Shocker IMPULSE Gets 40th Anniversary Screening

William Grefé’s Florida-lensed William Shatner-starring thriller IMPULSE screens in Tampa; director to attend.

Florida film fans looking to explore one of the more eccentric appendages of their local pop culture history are advised to get their sun-kissed rumps to the Tampa Theatre on Saturday, November 7th at 2pm to take in one of the sleaziest PG rated thrillers ever made: the skeezy, intense, shot in 1974 but not released until 1975, William Shatner shocker IMPULSE

IMPULSE was one of a handful of oddball B-movies that Shatner wound up in post-STAR TREK (other notable Shat-starring drive-in gems include 1975’s THE DEVIL’S RAIN and 1977’s immortal KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS), this one directed by none other than William Grefé (DEATH CURSE OF TARTU). In it, Shatner plays a grifter/drifter with an insatiable desire to kill widows, something that the daughter of one of his victims gets wise to, making her his next target.

There’s shades of NIGHT OF THE HUNTER in this leering gem, which was shot entirely in Tampa and co-stars Harold “Odd Job” Sakata, Jennifer Bishop (Grefé’s MAKO: JAWS OF DEATH) and Ruth Roman (THE BABY.)

For this special 40th anniversary screening, Grefé himself will be on hand for a lively and informative Q&A session and meet-and-greet and the festivities will be hosted by “King of the B-Movies” Joel D. Wynkoop, star of TRUTH OR DARE and BRAINJACKED.

For the second consecutive year, Tampa Theatre spotlights cult movies produced in the Tampa Bay area. Screening organizer and filmmaker Andy Lalino is excited about this legacy. “Impulse follows 2014’s celebrated Tampa Theatre screening of SATAN’S CHILDREN, another movie filmed in Tampa during the ‘70s. We are proud to showcase cult films lensed here in our own backyard. Above all, we are excited beyond words to have director William Grefé in person to amaze fans with personal, informative storytelling about the making of this special motion picture starring the idolized William Shatner.”

William Grefé is equally thrilled about the occasion. “I’m making a special trip to see my Tampa fans and friends – it’s been 40 years since we premiered Impulse in Clearwater”, he said. “And I’m proud to screen it triumphantly again at the glorious Tampa Theatre! Be prepared for edge-of-your seat storytelling about working with Shatner and the cast. I have tall tales that will blow your mind! This is an event no true fan of independent and cult film should miss – true once-in-a-lifetime stuff!”

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for Tampa Theatre Members available at the Tampa Theatre Box Office located at 711 N Franklin Street Tampa, FL 33602 or online HERE ($2 convenience fee applies.) Children 17 and under not admitted without an adult.
