Dear White People’s Simien to Make Psychological Horror Film

Dear White People, the sharp, incisive and funny feature debut from Justin Simien won great acclaim out of Sundance 2014 before an October release from Roadside Attractions last fall. Though it seemingly flew under the radar, the comedy announced a promising, talented filmmaker, one who excitedly has an eye for horror, as well.

Deadline reports Simien will re-team with Dear White People (pictured, top) producers Julia Lebedev and Angel Lopez, under the former’s Code Red Productions, for an independent psychological horror film. The film is untitled, and no plot has been revealed, but it’s said to contain a satirical streak.

Dear White People did as well, as it challenged race relations and perception on a fictional ivy league campus. I wouldn’t presume that Simien’s horror story has similar concerns, but whatever it may be, it’s exciting to see the talent enter the genre and hopefully help amplify support for more black voices in horror.
