Montreal

The now bi-annual Frontières International Co-Production Market, a weekend of events dedicated to the co-production and financing of genre films between North America and Europe has announced its First Wave of Selections, including potential films from Henry’s John McNaughton,  A Serbian Film’s Srdjan Spasojevic and Turbo Kid’s RKSS Films.

The Montreal Edition of the Frontières International Co-Production Market, coinciding with the lauded, annual Fantasia International Film Festival gets underway July 23-26. Each edition of the market is a valuable destination for filmmakers, one that values the genre and its potential. I was privileged to attend and observe the Frontières International Co-Production Market at both its Brussels and Montreal editions in 2014. The former marked the first time the Market hit Brussels and what I saw was an inspiring few days, with dedicated directors, producers, distributors and more looking to usher exciting new genre film into the world. I’ve also heard feedback since from directors whose projects were selected that their time at Frontières was invaluable.

Keep an eye on the projects, below, which may very well turn into very neat films down the line and if you’re a filmmaker, it’s worth submitting to editions of Frontières or Fantastic Fest’s Fantastic Market in the future.

After a highly successful second European edition at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in April, Frontières returns to the Fantasia International Film Festival for its sixth edition, which will take place July 23-26 in Montreal.

Industry Registration for Frontières and the Fantasia Industry Rendez-Vous is now open (Early bird deadline: May 28).

Frontières is the first and only co-production market to connect North America with Europe in an environment specifically focused on genre film production and financing. Frontières marks its return to Fantasia with an expanded Frontières line-up that will allow more projects to participate in live pitch sessions. The complete project line-up will be announced at the end of May.

Frontières is thrilled to announce a first wave of projects selected to participate in its 4th North American edition. The line-up includes projects in development from  director John McNaughton (HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, WILD THINGS), producersMichael Roiff (WAITRESS, IN YOUR EYES) and Ritesh Batra (THE LUNCHBOX), director Srdjan Spasojevic (A SERBIAN FILM), producer Rob Cotterill (HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN), and producer Colin Geddes (MANBORG).

Frontières is also pleased to include in its line-up the winner of the Imagine Film Festival Pitch Contest, KILL MODE, awarded to the top Dutch genre project. KILL MODE is a co-presentation with the Imagine Film Festival, with support from the Netherlands Film Fund.

And fresh off the recent international success of TURBO KID (Official Selection: Sundance Film Festival and Winner of the 2015 SXSW Midnighters Audience Award) Frontières is pleased to announce the selection of ELORA, the next project from RKSS Films and EMAfilms.TURBO KID began as a Frontières project in 2012 and will make its return to Montreal for its Canadian premiere at Fantasia.

Maverick filmmaker John McNaughton, whose past credits include HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, MAD DOG AND GLORY, WILD THINGS and THE HARVEST (a Fantasia 2014 international premiere), states: “I attended Fantasia  last year for the first time and had a fantastic time. I can’t wait to get back to Montreal to participate in the Frontières Co-Production Market and see some of the many friends I made last year.”
