Gremlins Remake Gets Goosebumps Writer

Carl Ellsworth, the scribe behind the Last House on the Left remake, as well as this October’s Goosebumps film, will pen the long-threatened remake of Gremlins.

Directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbs, Gremlins saw a young man (Zach Galligan) receive a Christmas gift in the form of Gizmo, the unbearably cute Mogwai. Billy is given three rules as to the care of Gizmo: No bright light; Don’t get him wet; and don’t feed him after dark. Of course, all are broken and Dante spins the 80s favorite into a dark Christmas horror-comedy that’s mean-spirited and totally mad. Even more insane: Dante’s anarchic satire sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Now, after many rumors and developments, it seems the eventual remake is going ahead with Ellsworth writing and Columbus and Steven Spielberg producing for Warner Bros., Deadline reports. The site’s Mike Fleming indicates Columbus may direct, but it’s far from confirmed.
