SXSW 2015 Teaser: Heavy Metal Horror Abound in Deathgasm

We live in an age of genre filmmkaers influenced by all manner of horror, from slashers to gialli to cannibal film to splatter. Where, may we ask is the metal? Where are the films in the vein of The Gate, Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare, Black Roses, Rocktober Blood and more? Hopefully, SXSW has our answer in newly announced Midnight premiere, Deathgasm

Produced by Darky Sky and Ant Timpson’s Timpson Films (The ABCs of Death, Housebound), Deathgasm continues the exciting resurgence of New Zealand horror, following titles like the acclaimed Housebound, vampire mock doc What We Do in the Shadows and cannibal comedy Fresh Meat. In Deathgasm, “Highschool can be Hell. Metal-thrashing Brodie is an outcast in a small town until he meets a kindred spirit in metalhead Zakk. After starting their own band, Brodie and Zakk’s resentment of the suburban wasteland leads them to a mysterious piece of sheet music said to grant Ultimate Power to whoever plays it. But the music also summons an ancient evil entity known as Aeloth The Blind One, who threatens to tear apart existence itself. It’s up to Brodie, Zakk and their mates to stop a force of pure evil from devouring mankind.”

Deathgasm will have its World Premiere in the Midnighters section of SXSW Film, running March 13-21, 2015 in Austin, Texas. The film shares a section with Sundance highlights The Nightmare and Turbo Kid, Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation, Henry Rollins cannibal picture He Never Died and much more.
