CW Orders Joe Hill-Scripted Tales from the Darkside Pilot

Anthologies are back in a big way. From the world of independent horror (see Holidays, just announced today) to television, where series are increasingly switching it up each season (American Horror StoryFargo). It seemed only a matter of time then before the two worlds would meld and someone would either create a new weekly horror anthology, or resurrect an older one, building off a known, beloved title. It’s the latter, with the CW’s developing Tales From the Darkside getting a pilot order today.

Initially announced back in fall 2013, it looks as if a new Tales From the Darkside will indeed come to fruition. The pilot, which has been scripted by author Joe Hill (HornsLocke & Key), will be produced by Hill, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Heather Kadin, Mitch Galin and Jerry Golod. No word who will direct just yet.

Tales From the Darkside initially ran for four seasons from 1984-1988. The series, in the tradition of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, was created by George A. Romero and featured contributions from Romero, Tom Savini, Robert Bloch and more. The series adapted works by Cliver Barker, Harlan Ellison and Stephen King (Hill’s father) . Tales From the Darkside: The Movie, directed by John Harrison, released in May of 1990.

Along with Tales, Variety reports the CW has ordered pilots for Cordon and Dead People. The former, based on a Belgian series, focuses on an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta “leaving some people stuck on the outside of a large city quarantine.”  The latter is about an alcoholic cab driver who can interact with ghosts.
