Classic Horror Versus Modern Horror Analyzed in Monster Mash Parody

It reminds me of a recent Q&A Fred Dekker participated in here in Hollywood. The Monster Squad director was asked if a contemporary take featuring today’s horror icons would work and he scoffed, criticizing today’s boogeymen for not being relatable. After all, how are you supposed to identify with the child killing Freddy Krueger or the cannibalistic Leatherface.

This “Modern Monster Mash” certainly calls attention to the radical difference between the tame monsters of yesteryear and the blood-thirsty lot we’ve seen grace the screen the last over the last 40 years.

Apparently this video was produced under the recent partnership that occurred between Legendary and YouTube. The latter welcomed Legendary and select YouTube channels to create sundry short horror films to roll out throughout the month (you can see the Legendary logo embedded in the set).
