Max Borenstein penned the original draft of the script which is going to be helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of the Sundance hit The Kings of Summer. Universal will distribute the film on November 4, 2016.
Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.
The last time Kong appeared on the screen was in Peter Jackson’s King Kong. It’s likely that Skull Island is simply going to represent a “fresh start” for the property and not be connected to Jackson’s take in any way. I’m sure we’ll find out over the next year as the film heads into production.
