Shooting Underway On King Cohen: The Wild World of Filmmaker Larry Cohen

Larry Cohen – I think you’ll agree – and his remarkable career as a writer, director and producer is being analyzed in a new feature-length documentary being produced by La-La Land Entertainment and Big And Tall Films.

The project – entitled King Cohen: The Wild World of Filmmaker Larry Cohen – is currently in production and I’m allowed to say that I was interviewed for the doc so I could enthusiastically talk about his impact on the horror genre with films like It’s Alive and Q – The Winged Serpent.

Steve Mitchell is writing, directing and producing the doc.

Larry Cohen is the living definition of an American film auteur – a fiercely independent and thought-provoking artist who infuses all his work with insightful social commentary and a unique brand of biting satire.

King Cohen takes an exciting look at Larry Cohen’s astounding, 50-year-plus, still ongoing legacy – from his iconic 60’s television work (creating Branded and The Invaders among others) to his legendary 70’s feature films Black Caesar and Hell Up in Harlem and his wildly original, influential horror classics like God Told Me ToThe Stuff and the titles mentioned above.

Larry Cohen has always done it his way, and with a quirky, dangerous energy all his own. He is a true maverick – a man who embodies a spirit of creative and personal cinema that is increasingly endangered in today’s corporate moviemaking culture the documentary will be completed and released in 2015, featuring all-new, on-camera interviews with Larry Cohen, Jon Burlingame, Joe Dante, James Dixon, Megan Gallagher, Mick Garris, Fred Keller, Yaphet Kotto, John Landis, Laurene Landon, Michael Moriarty, Daniel Pearl, David J. Schow, Fred Williamson and more!

The film is produced by Matt Verboys and Dan McKeon, executive produced by M.V. Gerhard and John Dadlez and associate produced by Mary Skrenes.
