Murphy Will Introduce a Terrifying Clown in American Horror Story: Freak Show

With the writing team hard at work on American Horror Story: Freak Show, showrunner Ryan Murphy is now revealing who might represent next season’s boogeyman: Clown Killer.

In a chat with EW, he says audiences should get ready to meet “the most terrifying clown ever!”

Will he top Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT, the last televised killer clown to send shivers down our spine? We’ll see. Murphy also told the outlet:

“It was always a concept that Jessica and I talked about really early on,” says Murphy of Freak Show. “It was always her favorite one, which I thought was funny. I’ve had many different versions that I’ve run by her. I just love it. It feels really right. I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the Asylum season. But look — if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.”

Another character you can expect to see is the show’s own take on a bearded lady. But I think it’s safe to say we’ll see the usual assortment of staple “freaks” in the next story arc.
