The Ju-On series will live on in a new film that rolls cameras this week under the direction of Masayuki Ochiai who is working from a script he penned. The good news? He directed the vivid and weird 2004 flick Infection. The bad news? He gave us the 2008 remake of Shutter. The new film is calle Ju-on: Owari no Hajimari (The Grudge: Beginning of the End) and it's opening overseas June 28th.
Here's the synopsis:
An elementary school teacher named Yui visits the home of a boy named Toshio Saeki who's been absent from school for a long period of time. When she arrives, she re-lives the horrific tragedy which occurred in the Saeki household 10 years earlier. A cardboard box left in a closet holds the key to revealing a long-hidden truth.
That's an awfully familiar premise for a Ju-On film, no? I'm sure we'll see this one make the leap across the pond at some point. We'll keep you posted when that happens.
