One of the films I saw at the Fantasia Film Festival in August was The Machine, an sci-fi thriller directed by Caradog James and starring Caity Lotz. Today, a UK trailer has hit for the film in anticipation of its overseas release.
Although an indie production, the film felt big. The Machine has big ideas and vivid, confident execution. I was definitely a fan and I've been eager to hear who acquired the film for the U.S. Once I find out, I'll let you know. In the meantime, enjoy this preview.
With an impoverished world plunged into a Cold War with a new enemy, Britain’s Ministry of Defense is on the brink of developing a game-changing weapon. Lead scientist Vincent McCarthy (Toby Stephens) provides the answer with his creation, ‘The Machine’- an android with unrivalled physical and processing skills. When a programming glitch causes an early prototype to destroy his lab, McCarthy enlists artificial intelligence expert Ava (Lotz) to help him harness the full potential of a truly conscious fighting machine.
Lotz appeared in last year's The Pact and will also appear in the sequel.
