NBC wanted to get even further into the realm of genre television. According to Deadline, the network is reviving Babylon Fields, a proposed series – inspired by the 2004 film They Came Back (Les Revenants) – that was original sheltered at CBS.
The undead are big on television, however. HUGE, in fact. So, why not throw one more series into the mix? We already have The Returned, a French series (also inspired by They Came Back), the upcoming American redo of The Returned, and something called Resurrection that’s in the works at ABC. And all deal with the same theme: The dead come back to life and resume their every day business.
A Babylon Fields pilot was shot years ago and was leaked online. But what NBC is doing is an overhaul with Michael Cuesta, Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson shepherding the project. They were on board the original pilot as well.
According to Deadline: “In Babylon Fields, the dead are rising in Babylon, NY, and as a result, lives are regained, old wounds are reopened and families are restored for better or worse. The newly regenerated bodies are healing faster and growing stronger than anyone else leading to the suspicion that they might be the next step in human evolution.”
More on the series as it comes in!
