Stephen King’s Under the Dome Coming to TV Next Summer

This baby’s going to happen and it’s going to happen fast.

A screen adaptation of Under the Dome was originally kicked around in mid-2011 and, at the time, Showtime was going to air it.  CBS has instead taken the reins and will air 13 episodes next summer.

The site reports Niels Arden Oplev, the director of the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, will helm the first episode.  Brian K. Vaughan (Lost, Y: The Last Man) adapted the massive story for the screen.

The story tells of a small town in Maine which is cut off from the rest of the world by an invisible dome. With air, food and patience dwindling, societal norms within this town begins to break down
